Josmeyer

House Josmeyer has been harvesting and vinifying Alsace wines since 1854. This very old House is located in Wintzenheim, an Alsatian town near Colmar.

The vineyard, which has been awarded the AB (organic farming) label, covers an area of around 28 hectares and is made up of 28% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 21% Pinot Gris, 19%Gewurztraminer and 10% Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir grape varieties.

Production is around 200,000 bottles, depending on the year.

The vineyard produces wines on Hengst,  a hillside at 360 meters altitude on a mainly limestone soil and  Brand, a granitic terroir at 343 meters located on the Turckheim bench,  both classified Grands Crus.

Description Josmeyer Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles Grand Cru 1995.

The flagship wine in the Domaine Josmeyer "Vins d'Exception" range, Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles 1995 is a masterpiece of Alsatian viticulture. Born of an exceptional climatic year marked by ideal conditions for the development of botrytis cinerea (the famous noble rot), this wine embodies the sublime metamorphosis of grapes into precious nectar.

These grapes, carefully selected and harvested from late October to late November, were then fermented naturally in century-old oak foudres and stainless steel vats. This meticulous process produced a wine of concentration and complexity Rares. With residual sugar of 80 g/l and total acidity of 5.6 g/l (tartaric acidity), this Gewurztraminer offers a harmonious profile, balanced by the combination of intense sweetness with remarkable freshness.

To the eye, this Gewurztraminer is adorned with a brilliant golden yellow color. On the nose, it reveals an intense aromatic bouquet, driven by notes of praline, toast, fruit Secs, gingerbread and smoky notes. On the palate, the attack is one of exceptional finesse. The concentration of the fruit pleasantly dominates the palate, without heaviness, and the finish lingers long with nuances of orange peel and smoke.

As far as food and wine pairings are concerned, this Gewurztraminer initiates beautiful marriages with eXOtic fruit-based desserts, such as mango and pineapple, or with orange desserts. Its intensity and complexity make it an ideal companion to end a meal on a high note.
