Josmeyer

House Josmeyer has been harvesting and vinifying Alsace wines since 1854. This very old House is located in Wintzenheim, an Alsatian town near Colmar.

The vineyard, which has been awarded the AB (organic farming) label, covers an area of around 28 hectares and is made up of 28% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 21% Pinot Gris, 19%Gewurztraminer and 10% Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir grape varieties.

Production is around 200,000 bottles, depending on the year.

The vineyard produces wines on Hengst,  a hillside at 360 meters altitude on a mainly limestone soil and  Brand, a granitic terroir at 343 meters located on the Turckheim bench,  both classified Grands Crus.

Description Josmeyer Pinot Gris Hengst Grand Cru 2016.

The Pinot Gris Grand Cru Hengst 2016 is a wine that reflects the singularity of the Alsatian terroir of Wintzenheim. The name "Hengst", meaning "stallion", is an allusion to the strength and distinctive character of this terroir, mainly made up of limestone and marl. An astonishing geological diversity that translates into the complexity and depth of this wine.

And all the more so as, since 2004, the vineyard has been cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. This approach promotes harmony between heaven, earth, plant and man, leading to the production of high-quality grapes that fully express the unique character of their terroir.

The vinification of Pinot Gris is carried out with meticulous care. The grapes, harvested by hand and pressed in whole bunches using a pneumatic press, are then fermented naturally, without the addition of enzymes or selected yeasts. Aging in century-old oak foudres allows the wine to mature and develop its aromatic profile and texture.

The result is a La robe intense wine, with a rich nose and a palate that reveals complex, nuanced aromas. With a residual sugar of 12 g/l and tartaric acidity of 5.5 g/l, this Pinot Gris offers a perfect balance between sweetness and freshness, characteristic of great Alsace wines.

With an aging potential of 10 to 15 years, it is an ideal companion for refined, richly flavored dishes. It goes perfectly with foie gras in terrine, lobster in sauce, risottos with morels or porcini mushrooms, kidneys in sauce, pan-fried livers, or Cantonese Chinese dishes. Pinot Gris Grand Cru Hengst 2016 is a wine that will delight palates looking for wines with strong personality.
