Josmeyer

House Josmeyer has been harvesting and vinifying Alsace wines since 1854. This very old House is located in Wintzenheim, an Alsatian town near Colmar.

The vineyard, which has been awarded the AB (organic farming) label, covers an area of around 28 hectares and is made up of 28% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 21% Pinot Gris, 19%Gewurztraminer and 10% Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir grape varieties.

Production is around 200,000 bottles, depending on the year.

The vineyard produces wines on Hengst,  a hillside at 360 meters altitude on a mainly limestone soil and  Brand, a granitic terroir at 343 meters located on the Turckheim bench,  both classified Grands Crus.

Description Josmeyer Riesling Brand Grand Cru 2018.

The Riesling Brand Grand Cru 2018 is a great white wine produced on the unique Turckheim terroir, in Alsace.

The name "Brand", which means "Land of Fire", evokes the warmth and intensity of this granitic terroir, known for its ability to provide abundant trace elements, essential for the development of Riesling.

This terroir is divided into two distinct parts: the Steingliz, endowed with granite soil, and the Schneckelsbourg, richer in limestone and organic matter. This geological diversity results in a wine that is both rich and complex, whose high pH contributes to its unique character.

This Grand Cru is the fruit of environmentally-friendly viticulture, practiced according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture since 2004. This holistic approach ensures optimal interaction between the vine and its natural environment, favoring the production of grapes of exceptional quality.

The vinification of this Riesling is carried out with particular care, beginning with hand harvesting and delicate pressing before continuing with a natural, non-interventionist fermentation. The grapes then mature in century-old oak foudres or stainless steel vats, allowing optimal development of the primary aromas.

Produced from plots whose yields are deliberately limited and whose vines are an average of 40 years old, the 2018 Riesling Brand Grand Cru presents a perfect balance between moderate residual sugar (5 g/l) and refreshing acidity (7.3 g/l). Combining the generosity of the 2018 vintage with the mineral characteristics of its granite terroir, it stands out for its sunny yet saline profile.

While its complexity promises excellent aging potential, this Riesling will reveal itself in pairing with classic Alsatian cuisine or seafood dishes with iodized flavors. It goes ideally with seafood, fish, sushi, sashimi, white meats with cream sauce, and various cheeses such as goat, ewe, comté, old gouda or parmesan.
