Château Climens

This family-run estate embodies excellence in the production of sweet, syrupy wines, with a rich history and exceptional terroir that have contributed to its worldwide renown.

The history goes back several centuries. Founded in the 16th century, it has since remained in the same family for generations, making it one of Rares Domaines wineries in France to have preserved such long family continuity. The Bérénice Lurtons, who run the estate, have inherited this precious family heritage. This stability and tradition have enabled the family to perfect their art in the production of exceptional sweet wines.

The Château Climens extends over some 30 hectares of vines located in the Barsac region, which is part of the Sauternes appellation. The particularity of this terroir lies in its ideal climate for noble rot, the botrytis cinerea fungus, which is essential for the production of sweet wines. The soils of this region are made up of gravel, clay and sand, offering a variety of microclimates that allow irregular ripening of the grapes, a key element in the creation of wines of great complexity.

The harvest is carried out by successive selections, selecting the bunches affected by noble rot, which means that only perfectly botrytized berries are picked. This involves meticulous manual work and constant attention to the weather to decide on the optimum moment for harvesting. Late harvesting, often in autumn, is crucial to obtaining wines with concentrated aromas and bewitching sweetness.

Reputed for their wines of great elegance and exceptional purity. Their wines are characterized by complex aromas of honey, apricot Sec, candied fruit, citrus and a hint of minerality. On the palate, they offer perfect harmony between sweetness, refreshing acidity and a long finish.

The Château Climens is also involved in sustainable viticultural practices, with particular attention paid to biodiversity and the preservation of the local ecosystem. This approach reflects the Lurton family's commitment to land protection and responsible production.
