Château Calon Ségur

The Château Calon Ségur is an unavoidable reference of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, whose wines are born of a very high standard. In 1670, the granddaughter of the owner of Château de Calon married the Marquis Jacques de Ségur, owner of Châteaux de Lafite and Latour in Pauillac, who gave it its final name by adding his own. Then it was his grandson, the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who took the reins with passion and ambition. He never hid his love for the vineyard nor for Calon-Ségur and once said: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon". This is why it is a heart that has adorned the label of Château ever since.

At the famous 1855 classification at the Paris World's Fair, Château Calon-Ségur obtained the title of Third Grand Cru Classé.

Located on gravel and clay ridges that bring power and finesse to the wines, the vineyard reaches an area of 55 hectares: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Precision viticulture is applied, with the greatest respect for the environment. The wines are aged for 18 to 20 months in 100% new barrels.

A Second and a third wine are produced by the property, respectively the Marquis de Calon and the Saint-Estèphe de Calon-Ségur.

The wines of Château Calon Ségur are of pure harmony, offering a deep and generous character.
