Saint-Estephe
Only wines produced in the town of Saint-Estèphe (but not every plot of land) are entitled to the controlled designation of origin ‘Saint-Estèphe‘.
Winegrowing goes back to Roman times on this very small area of prestigious vineyards.
These are wines that are in general very robust but endowed with some finesse with a wide tannic structure full of notes of red fruits and spices.
Five classified Grands Crus that only represent 17% of the production, and whose surface area amounts to 1250 hectares :
Château Cos d'Estournel, Château Montrose, Château Calon-Ségur, Château Lafon-Rochet and Château Cos Labory.
Premiers grands Crus advises to lay them down for a few years to fully appreciate them.
