Southeast of the Pomerol plateau stands the famous Château L'Evangile, sitting on a long line of gravel, geological situation Rare and unusual for the appellation. Its history finds its roots in the XVIIIth century when it is managed by the Léglise family. It was finally named L'Evangile in the 19th century. It is only in 1990 that it will pass under the banner of Domaines Baron de Rothschild, managing the Château Lafite Rothschild to Pauillac. New restructurings were then undertaken, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, having since given birth to a remarkable series of vintages.
The Château L'Evangile is based on a vineyard of 22 hectares of vines planted on sandy-clay soils containing pure gravel, resting on a subsoil of iron dross conferring a sumptuous minerality on the wines. The grape varieties are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels of which 70% are new.
The property produces a Second wine, Blason de L'Evangile, made with equal care and precision.
The Château L'Evangile embodies the best of Pomerol, giving birth to wines in which power and finesse are combined. They offer a beautiful aromatic brilliance, great depth and elegance.
