The appellation Haut-Médoc is spread over more than a third of the Medoc vineyard in the region of Bordeaux, stretching over about sixty kilometers from the town of Blanquefort in the south to Saint-Seurin de Cadourne in the north. Its vineyard occupies a surface of approximately 4800 hectares of vines for a production of 32 million bottles on average.

The wines of Haut-Médoc are known to be full-bodied, flattering and fleshy. They come from a predominantly gravelly terroir complemented by clay-limestone soils. In total, it has 5 Grands Crus Classés in 1855.

What are the characteristics of the Haut-Médoc appellation?

Thanks to the diversity of its terroirs, the appellation Haut-Médoc allows Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to flourish in a large majority, as well as Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
